Instagram retires every Story the next day, even the ones your followers actually saw. The smart schedule keeps active creators on a fast cadence so most Stories are pulled while they're still live, and the file lands in a library that ignores Instagram's clock from then on.

Keep your main account safe

Checking a public creator for new posts uses no account at all, and neither does downloading the photos and videos - that is the bulk of the work, and none of it touches your accounts. What still needs a login - Stories, Highlights, Reels, private creators, and the few creators Instagram hides from signed-out visitors - StreamStash keeps off your main.
- Public creators need no account. Finding a public creator's new posts and fetching the files both happen signed out, so that activity looks like ordinary logged-out browsing rather than something tied to you. Adding a creator and catching up on their older posts - the biggest single job StreamStash does - runs signed out too.
- Point the rest at a second account. Stories, Highlights, Reels and private creators need a login. Hand that work to a second Instagram account, signed in from its own browser profile, so your main account is only ever used for the private accounts it follows.
- Accounts stay isolated. A problem on the second account never reaches your main - the public work waits for the second account to come back rather than moving across - and each account keeps its own cooldown history, so a throwaway account tripping a flag can never extend your main account's cool-off.
- Swap and rest in one step. If the second account wears out, Swap replaces it and clears everything tied to the old one. Anonymous-only mode rests every account entirely, for when you want a complete break.

When Instagram returns a passive "suspicious activity" challenge inside an API response, StreamStash auto-pauses Instagram downloads and enforces a mandatory 24-hour cooldown — the Resume button shows a countdown timer and the worker auto-resumes when the cooldown elapses. The cooldown stops the loop where hitting Resume too early just re-trips the same flag. The flag itself is passive and decays with no scripted activity, so the wait is what clears it. Manual pauses are unaffected and can be resumed anytime.
